What would I do to deal with globalisation? (Crowna XII A6/11)
“Globalisation feels like a runaway train, out of control.”
Gordon Brown.
What is globalisation actually? If you ask me a kind of
question like that, honestly, I would take a long time to think and answer it.
Because I thought, globalisation can be seen from many ways. It is not just
about the culture, technology, or else, but it
is also about the transformation of human race. It is a big deal. And it’s not
as simple as everyone can say. That thing is going to change everyone’s life.
I
am sure that everyone has ever heard the “globalisation” word at least for
once. But not everyone can get it well. When I heard “globalisation” for the
first time, I just thought in a simple way. As far as I knew, globalisation is
all about the change. The change of world’s culture, economy, and other
aspects. Since a long time ago, it has been debated if it is a good thing or
bad thing. And I was on the good side. I just could see the good impact of
globalisation. Especially for Indonesia. From the past until now, we all know
that Indonesia is one of developing country. In my opinion, they, developing
countries, are helped with the globalisation. Globalisation makes all of
countries in this whole world are connected. So, somehow, the developed
countries could help the other countries.
But
the fact is not just like that. There are several things from my old opinion
that have to be fixed because my knowledge was limited. First, the definition
of globalisation. Actually, globalisation is the process when everything that
happens in one country, can affect other countries in this whole world.
Everything that is happened is on an international scale. Everything, includes
culture, economy, international market, politics, etc. Is it good or bad? The
answer depends on the way we think. It is true that globalisation gives the
good impacts. Globalisation makes you and people around the world are connected
each other easily. By that way, you can keep in touch with some important
information that you have to know. From the economy perspective, most
economists agree that globalisation gives benefits to individual economies
around the world, by making markets more efficient, increase competition, and
it automatically spreads wealth equally around the world.
But
like other things, globalisation also has the bad too. For example, technology
around the world is growing so fast. In fact, it is a good thing because
technology makes everything in easy. But the simple question is, how do hackers
work? Internet grows uncontrollably. If we talk about internet, I believe all
of us, no matter how old we are, we use internet for any needs. Everyone has
their access to connect to internet. And if you type anything on a search bar,
it all pops out easily. For those who use internet to help their positive
activity, it is so useful. But how about those who don’t? People can easily use
internet for a crime that is usually called cyber crime. And more, all the bad
contents can suddenly appear on the screen. What if it is seen by childs?
Actually,
globalisation is one of million way to bring us to be better. But not everyone
can accept it in the right way. It is good or not, depends on how we face it.
For me, I thought the world can not wait for me. And it becomes more advanced
even if I just missed it for a while. So I choose to keep awake for the growth.
I am going to take a positive side to develop. I’m gonna use it for my work
life in the future.
These
days, technology that is used for daily life has already advanced. So how is it
going to be in the next 10 or 20 years later? I think it is going to be more
increased. And I choose to follow the flow, not to avoid it. But actually I am
not sure about my future. If I am asked about what would I do in next 10 or 20
years, I think I am going to take a part of my country’s development by learn
quite a lot more about technology. I am using the technology in the right way
and not going to let it controls me. I want to learn to manage the economy of
this country somehow. Maybe I am gonna take a study program abroad so that I can
earn a lot of knowledge that’s useful for the future. Not to betray my country,
but I think if we want this country to increase, we have to learn from the
developed country. We can adapt the way they manage their country so that we
can manage this messed country too.
This
is not just about technology, there are some other effects of globalisation
that we must deal with. For example, the economy, politics, social, and
culture. I know that I am not the person who get myself in the politics problem
or even economy. But for this country’s development, I will take a part to
solve social and culture problem. Not everyone in Indonesia that has
open-minded, so I think, during the globalisation, one of social problem that
we have to face is a gap. So I will learn about the people and help to think
about the solution to make the better world, start from this country,
Indonesia. I want to be able to take part in culture problem too because I do
love the east culture, especially Indonesia. We can’t just let the west take
the chair away.
So
I will not miss any chance to learn as much as I can. Because the world is
running around me and I can’t ask the world to stop and wait for me. Globalisation
is keep growing, spread to every corners in this world. It is like a runaway
train, uncontrollably. But it’s all up to us, how we face it. If you ask me, I will
choose to join the train and pick the right way for the better destination. Join
me?
