Face the Globalisation - Constantia L.T. XII A6/10
Face the Globalisation
With this writing I want to tell you about my
thought on “What will I do to deal with globalisation in 10 or 20 more years?”
But first, we need to know, what is globalisation? Globalisation is the process
of everything becoming more worldwide. Globalisation is happening because of
growth in technology. Globalisation made changes in many aspect, especially
economics changes. It makes business transaction easier. We can go for business
trip to the other side of the world just in hours. We can buy things from other
country just by the tap of our hand. We can make deals online. Online business
bring us to a whole different era. But, of course, nothing is completely good.
Globalisation has negative effect too. Many business that aren’t able to
compete get bankrupt. Developed country open business in developing country. If
you are being abrupt you can say that it is a new type of colonialism.
Many people said that globalisation makes the
rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. It doesn’t end with that. Globalisation
doesn’t only affect economics. It affects our politics, cultures, lifestyles, environments,
etc. Many political changes are made to adapt and to withstand globalisation.
The cultures are merging one with another or even creating a new one. The new
lifestyle of people that can’t be separated from gadget, trendy clothes, fast
food, and other things are happening because of globalisation. Like what they
say “Bring the distance closer and keep away what is close.” Environmental changes such as global warming,
air pollution, plastic that disturb sea ecosystem, over-fishing and many others
are all related with globalisation.
Let’s get back to the track. So, what will I
do? I want to be able to adapt with the change. To be able to adapt with the
change, you need the ability. In my highscool, I am blessed to have this
psychology test that allow me to know how high my ability to adapt is. Adapting
with the change doesn’t mean that you leave everything behind and become a new
person. Well, that’s not completely false either. You became able to do things
with ease. Even though I am adapting, I still want to keep my eastern custom.
I want to be able to compete with everyone else.
I often hear that in 10 or 20 more years, it will be harder to compete in the
work field, and that you better prepare yourself with skills that are needed in
the new era. In globalisation era, you are not competing with people around
you. You are competing with everyone on this planet, with people in different
country or different continent. It is an era of online transaction. Who hasn’t tried
online shopping, go-jek, or grab? I am sure all of you who is reading this has
done it. This proves that online business is inevitable now. You can start
preparing yourself from now. There are many aspect that are needed to compete
in years later. Look it up now. Polish yourself. What are you waiting for?
Don’t wait until it is too late.
I want to keep my religion. Modern people tend
to forget God. We don’t need to see 10 or 20 years later. Look at it now. In developed
country, religion is number what-hundred for people. Many people are
irreligious (don’t have religion) and don’t believe in God. I don’t want to be like
that. Well, atleast this is what I think. If you think the other way, I will
respect your opinion.
I want to make effort in the environment. I
still want my children to enjoy the beauty of this world. To make changes, is
to change yourself. Start with small things. Use bottle that can be used many
times. Reduce the use of plastics. Use public transportation or just walk by
foot if it is near. Save energy. Save water.
I want to talk about marriage. I don’t actually
feel that being married is a must, or maybe not yet. I think that for modern
people, being single for life is normal. Indonesia is too dense anyway. So,
having less kids mean saving the space. I think that couple that doesn’t have
stable income and the capability to educate their children should not have
children yet. Well, if I do have children, I want to protect them from the
negative side of the globalisation. I don’t want to give my children
smartphone, tab, or any other gadget atleast until their age is enough to
understand it.
That is all I can tell you about my thought on
globalisation. Remember that globalisation is real and it is happening right
now. Is globalisation a threat for you? Or is it a chance? It is up to you to
decide.
