Globalisation - Christopher XII A6 / 09
Globalisation is a term used by
people to describe the increasing dependence of people and countries around the
world. This process has increased quickly in the last years due to rapid
advancement in technology. Globalisation creates new problems and challenges
such as conflicts and poverty. As we know today it has created many negative impacts
to our country and its people. Many of it is still a huge problem for us.
But globalisation also bring good
things to us. The good side of globalisation is the efficiencies and
opportunities in the open market. Business can
communicate efficiently and effectively with their partners, suppliers, and
customers and manage better their supplies, inventories, and distribution
network. Local producers can sell their products in distant markets with the
same ease and speed as in their home country. This will shape bigger markets to
accommodate all the economic connection. In these times, there are online shops
that can help you shop from your own home, that is one of the positive examples
of globalization in our country.
The
bad thing about globalisation is that is uses resources more quickly. Not just
renewable resources, but also the limited resources like oil and coal. It also
contributed to pollution and global warming. More factories are built to meet
the consumer’s demand. New machineries are built to increase the efficiency of
producing goods. The first case of this was the industrial revolution. Factories
are producing at a much faster rate than before, and it can empty the resources
if we are not prepared. Beside that, prices are increasing because of the
monopoly created by the big companies. These companies can sell their products
at a much different scale than their competitor and this is allowed because of
globalisation.
What we need to do, particularly to
anticipate the bad things that globalisation creates, it that we must keep
learning. Learning is not just studying in school, you can also learn from your
family, friends, and community. By learning you are forming your attitude and
gaining values. These attitudes and values that you received will prepare you
to face with globalisation. With our gained knowledge we can improve the
effects of globalisation around us in a positive way, and identify negative
effects from it and keep them to minimum. at the present time, globalisation
has made us easier to share and gain knowledge. Internet has made us easier to
exchange knowledge, and yet we are still rarely making use of the internet
fully.
In ten or twenty years from now
there will be new things, innovations that will further push globalisation into
new directions. The bad thing about advancement in technology is society will
rely more on technologies than on human. Soon human interaction can be replaced
with robots and screens that looks like us. Advanced technologies like this will
create new cultures, and we have to be able to adapt to it. That means schools
and education will also have to be improved. We need to be prepared for the
upcoming changes, and it must be started now.
The easiest thing we can do to deal with
globalisation is to understand what globalisation really is. By understanding
the real meaning of globalisation and the effects of it we can start to look for
the problems that may appear and face it. Dealing with the problems can be
started at a small scale, for example family. Parents have prepared us for the
future, but we have to keep learning and learning to further steady our principle
and concept idea about this world and the globalisation that affects it. The bad
effects of globalisation around us can be lessen or weaken throughout problem-solving
abilities what we obtained during our education and learning times.
I as a student must be able to
study these effects of globalisation in the future. Problems like food, economy,
and industry will change me and force me to adapt. I want to be able to adapt to
these changes and find a way out for the difficulties that I may encounter
ahead. In order to do that, to see the changes and prepare, I need to be well
prepared. Right now, I’m studying many things in school that may not be useful
later, but these lessons shape my mind, how I think about a problem. The process
of learning to achieve something is what made me believe that everything needs
time. Just like globalisation that can’t happen suddenly, and the bad things it
brings that can’t arrive instantly, I still have time to learn and improve what
globalisation really gives to us in the future.
